September LOVES

BEAUTY. Brazilian Bum Bum Cream (Sol de Janeiro)

I’ve always been one to hate creams with a passion. I can still feel the sunscreen stick my face and my scarf together on a cold day on the slopes. I simply cannot stand the feeling of putting fabric on top of bodylotion that isn’t absorbed quite yet. After getting a rash on my skin due to a bodylotion from &Other Stories, I had to use one from La Roche Posay which was really good but was super thick and awful to wear under clothes. I had heard a lot about the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream and when I found it at Sephora in Lisbon I was tempted to get it but since it was so damn expensive I put it back. After wandering around the shop for a few more minutes I turned to the counter to pay for the other stuff I did get and saw Spencer getting something wrapped by the employee. He had bought me the Bum Bum Cream! It’s so sweet of him, and he really shouldn’t have. No really… he shouldn’t… because now I really like the product and am very tempted to go out there and spend a small fortune on it again… First of all, I love the packaging. Second of all, I love the name. The cream itself has a gorgeous smell and color to it. And most importantly, although it looks very thick, it sinks into the skin like no other cream I ever tried before. If you despise the feeling of stickiness on your skin like I do (that’s what she said), I highly recommend you give the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream a go! But be warned, you’ll love it and will have to keep repurchasing it.

Fashion. Scuffette (UGG)

Well, I don’t know if I can actually call this a fashion favourite… Maybe a ‘feeling favourite’ is more appropriate? A few days ago I decided to bite the bullet and treat myself to a pair of UGG slippers that I had been eyeing up since last winter. It’s not that they are very pretty or anything, but they’re just so comfortable and of a very good quality. They simply make me feel really good and ‘put together’. I love investing in something that I know will last me quite a while. I did went through a little crisis when I spilled a drop of Woolite on them while doing the laundry. People who’ve owned Uggs before know what a shit it is to get stains out of them, but luckily my boyfriend knows quite a bit about shoes (since he works in the sneaker industry) and managed to almost get it off. But in the end these slippers are made to live in. I didn’t spend that money to leave them in the box. Maybe if I could go back in time I would get the black ones, but I do love the classic look of these and that’s why I got them in the first place. A little tip: they come quite small so I would recommend you size up!

Netflix. Stranger Things

I know, I know… I don’t have to tell you to go watch Stranger Things because you probably already did and if you didn’t you probably have had many people tell you that you should. But I wanted to give you my opinion on these series. First of all I have to say that if you are a scared lil bitch like I am, not to watch this by yourself. My boyfriend will be away for a weekend next month and I’m really thinking about staying at my parents for a while, because I’m too scared to be home alone. I’ve always been scared of the dark, fire, death and burglars, so it’s not entirely Netfix’s fault, but watching Stranger Things sure didn’t help. We actually watched a bit with Spencer’s mom who lives by herself and after we left she didn’t dare finish the series without us. Every evening we that watched it I felt very restless and not very chilled. So that’s a little sketch for you of how scary the series is. (For reference: After watching Paranormal activity I didn’t close an eye for an entire night). But that aside, I absolutely loved it! I loved the actors and the characters they were playing, I loved the story and I loved the setting. It’s predictable at times, but which series isn’t? I loved Eleven so much, I actually asked my hairdresser if she thought a shaved head would be a good look for me. I might go there one day. But for now, please find yourself someone who hasn’t seen the series either and is willing to live together with you for a while to watch Stranger Things together and hold you in your sleep afterwards.

Podcast. Deliciously Ella: The Podcast

This month, no music favourite but a podcast! What I love about my trainrides to school is that it gives me time to read and listen to podcasts: drinking up my morning smoothie while listening to people talk about things that really interest me. I really have been trying to get back on track with a healthy lifestyle after having gained a couple pounds due to summer, but also stress which got me really unmotivated for any of it. Gaining this weight really made me panic since I’d lost all that weight in the past and felt like a failure gaining it all back. This podcast really helped clear my mind about all ‘health myths’. Ella Woodward is a well know blogger about veganism who has written a couple cookbooks and has her own Deli in London. I have one of her cookbooks which I really love, I read het blog, watch her youtube videos and now listen to her podcast where she and her husband interview a specialist on subjects concerning health. I highly recommend listening to their podcast if you’re confused about what on earth a ‘healthy lifestyle’ means. I gave you a little snap of my healthy lifestyle process here, but there will be more about that on the blog soon.

That’s it! I hope you’ve had a great month and are as excited about autumn as I am. And if you’re not, I suggest you get those Ugg slippers and curl up on your sofa to watch Stranger Things, I bet you’ll get in the mood in no time. Also, feel free to send me book, music, TV, beauty, fashion, podcast recommendations via Instagram! I’m always on the hunt for new things!

X J
